DoubleTree by Hilton Washington Dulles Airport

The guest service was welcoming and great, but this is a huge hotel with hundreds of rooms and it's well away from Herndon city center. There's nothing nearby within walking distance. It looks dated, past its golden age, and not well maintained, as if it's going downhill. Maintenance needs to step up. Some easy, inexpensive fixes could improve the feel a lot. The elevators look dirty, with stains on the doors, around the edges, and especially on the control panels. The Do Not Disturb tag was missing, so I had to ask the service desk for another. I also don't understand the parking fee when the hotel isn't near a city center and the surrounding area is industrial.

The on-site restaurants were a plus, especially since they weren't too expensive, and the room worked well for my job with its large desk near the TV. It was pretty good overall, and I thought the price was reasonable, under $200 a night after tax. I stayed just two nights and don't give five-star reviews often. The Hilton is in a transition period and will become a Double Tree, as someone at the front desk explained. The location suited me, and the shuttle service to the hotel was useful. I wasn't sure from the reviews whether there was a mini-fridge, so I included photos of it. One thing that would help is signs showing where the elevators are. I was on the fourth floor and got turned around trying to find them.

The hotel is aged and dated, though the rooms are okay and at least have a bed. The WiFi was terribly slow, and my room had no hot water. I didn't realize until I was getting ready to catch the bus back to the airport. It was an awful stay, followed by a lukewarm apology. The price is very high for what you get, and the shuttle only comes every 30 minutes and doesn't take you to airport check-in. I'd recommend looking at other options nearby.

We left our car here for our international trip, with seven days of parking included, then came back late from our transatlantic flight. It was a blessing to stay nearby instead of facing the 2.5-hour drive home. In the very cold weather, they let us move the car from the lot into the garage for the night. The front desk staff were friendly and had a warm cookie waiting. We didn't need breakfast or other amenities for this trip, though the restaurant looked nice.
