The breakfast was a pleasant surprise: along with waffles, cereal, and coffee, there were scrambled eggs, sausage, French toast sticks, muffins, juice, and fresh fruit, with light jazz playing. Check-in was simple, and the staff were warm and welcoming. I got a first-floor room, which made it easy to warm up my vehicle in the morning. They also brought wine glasses when I asked, and the hot showers had enough space. Two bottles of water were included. They went beyond what I expected, so I’d happily stay here again.

The place was basically fine, though pretty bare for the price. It’s not one of the brand’s higher-tier properties, and the parking lot felt oddly laid out and crowded. Amenities were limited. The person checking me in was very Marriott-like, but at checkout the agent briskly refused a benefit I understood I was entitled to, repeating the same explanation three times. I suspect that’s why Marriott didn’t send its usual survey. I’ve learned to ask for late checkout up front, even when I might not need it. For context, I had booked two rooms. At check-in I was asked about late checkout, and when I asked about occupancy, I was told it was 80%. I chose not to use the benefit then as a favor to the hotel, since I wasn’t sure I’d need it. Later, after I’d removed everything from the second room, I asked for one extra hour in one room so I could change from work clothes into travel clothes before going to the airport. That request was denied. As a Lifetime Platinum member, I guess I’ll insist on late checkout at the start from now on, even if I don’t need it, despite the effect that may have on the cleaning crew and room turnover. Marriott keeps finding ways to tell its most loyal customers no.

That strobing parking lot light kept us from getting decent sleep for all four nights, and the beds weren’t comfortable either. My team and I were staying for the Interior Design Market in High Point, where the hotel required attendees to book four nights. We also couldn’t use Netflix or other streaming services, so we were stuck with cable. I asked to speak to the manager about these problems, but she never reached out; I had to contact her myself. We’ve stayed here for the Market for the past decade, but we won’t book again. We needed a place to sleep during an important event for designers and tradespeople, and instead the stay left the whole team exhausted.

For business in the Highpoint area, this is a handy place to stay. It’s close to downtown Highpoint and the highway, but not so close that traffic noise was an issue. The rooms are clean, modern, and inexpensive, and the property is tidy and well managed. Staff were friendly, well trained, and knowledgeable.

I’m from Las Vegas and used to live around here, so I came to visit friends and family. I’ve been here all week and will have spent eight nights by the time I leave. The place looks fairly new, is quiet, and has a very friendly staff. The free breakfast has been the best complimentary hotel breakfast I’ve had. I’ll definitely come back, probably next year.
