Lantern Inn

Our UTV club spent a week here, and we were sorry to leave. The family who owns the place treated us like family and went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. One evening they put on a taco bar for everyone, then set up a fire pit in the parking lot where we sat around talking and laughing. We had ten trucks with trailers, some extra long, and they made room for all of us. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. You can walk to downtown, museums, and restaurants, and there’s a large grocery store right across the street. The location couldn’t be better. We’d absolutely stay again.

The owners are the best part of this place. On our last night in town, our side by side broke down, and the owner drove a few miles out of town to pick us up and take us back to our truck. The hotel is just off the main road, with a grocery store right across the street for snacks and other things. It’s a great place to stay in Hill City, and I’d recommend it to anyone. 10 out of 10!

We picked Lantern Inn as a convenient base for seeing Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, the Badlands, Custer State Park, and Crazy Horse Memorial. It’s a family-owned inn, just a short walk from Hill City Main Street, and the rooms are clean, updated, and very nice. Laura was an extremely pleasant host and gave us helpful advice on how to get to the places we wanted to visit, along with recommendations for local shops and restaurants. If you’re staying in this part of the state, we highly recommend putting Lantern Inn at the top of your list.

The location makes Lantern Inn a great base for Hill City and the nearby sights, including Mt Rushmore, Custer, Crazy Horse, and Needles Hwy. Julie and Nick went out of their way to make us comfortable. The room was exceptionally clean, and the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. The towels were soft and fluffy. Even with temperatures in the 90s, the conditioner kept the room cool. The fridge kept our food cold, and the freezer kept our cold packs frozen. Krulls Market is across the street, so we could pick up fresh deli sandwiches and other supplies for outings in the parks. Julie was so kind when an emergency back home meant we had to leave early. With the good Lord willing, we hope to return. Thanks, Julie and Nick, you guys are the BEST!
