Quality Inn Near Mount Rushmore

The room looked modern, was very clean, and had a comfortable bed. Check-in was easy and pleasant, and my complaints are about the building, not the staff. We stayed four days in the last week of September 2020, and sleep was a real struggle. Footsteps from the room above came right through the paper-thin ceiling, and the heavy door locks made a lot of noise. Doors latching several rooms away could be heard in the hall, so it was hard to sleep past 6 a.m. The plumbing was the worst part: a neighbor’s shower or toilet sounded like Niagara Falls in our room. It seems the plumbing wasn’t installed properly, and it was the noisiest I’ve encountered in a motel. Breakfast was sparse for more than $100 a night: coffee, juice, Cheerios or Coco Puffs, yogurt, bagels, and waffles, but no eggs, sausage, or biscuits and gravy. Parking at the end of the building was very tight, too. Most guests were older couples while we were there, and I can only imagine how noisy it gets in summer with kids around. We didn’t use the A/C, so I can’t say how loud it is. I don’t think we’d stay again.

I’d recommend this hotel for a family trip. We booked the Quality Inn near Hill City because our stays with Choice Properties have always gone well, and this one lived up to that. The outside didn’t make much of an impression, but the rooms had been recently updated and were quite spacious. The front desk clerk was polite, and check-in went smoothly. As someone who travels for work a lot, it had been ages since I’d stayed somewhere for fun with my family and simply enjoyed it. The kids approved!

Clean rooms, a comfortable bed and pillows, and very polite staff, especially overnight. When we asked for an extra blanket, one arrived right away, which hasn’t happened at every hotel we’ve stayed at. The rate felt fair. I skipped a second night to save about $50 at a cheaper hotel, but the difference was clear in what you could see and feel. The continental breakfast was nothing special, though that seems common these days, mostly grab-and-go items. All in all, a great place to stay.

The hotel was quiet at night, and it’s only 15 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, away from the busy main route there. The price was excellent, too. The staff and breakfast were fantastic, the building was pristine, and the spotless rooms were comfortable. The pool was excellent as well. A really nice place to stay, with quality throughout.
