Courtyard by Marriott Hilton Head Island Hotel

The rooftop is a great place to relax in the sun, and the room was clean. But the service was pretty mediocre, and the room we booked had apparently been given to a walk-in just minutes after we checked in. The shower and water pressure were some of the worst we’ve had. We’ve stayed at plenty of Marriotts, and I’m not sure this one is worth the price.

It’s a standard hotel, and charging $10 for parking feels especially pointless when it’s in the middle of nowhere. The Bonvoy app advertises a mobile key, but you still have to go to the desk, probably so they can charge that parking fee. And please don’t reply with “we’re so sorry, contact us.” I’m not going to.

The rooftop pool and dining area were a highlight, with a nice ocean view, and the hotel was clean and well laid out. My wife and I stayed for one evening; the beds were extremely comfortable, and the beach is just two blocks away. We really liked the property. As Platinum Bonvoy members, we’re used to certain service and benefits at Marriott hotels. The main letdown was breakfast. Courtyards often don’t have a buffet, but the grill food was very expensive. The $10 breakfast vouchers basically cover a Starbucks venti coffee at the downstairs grill. Platinum or Titanium members may be better off taking the 500 points and getting breakfast elsewhere.

We only booked the night before our visit to Hilton Head, but the room was spacious and very clean, and the beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly and the location was great. The rooftop bar was closed, though. I’d stay here again.
