We picked Surfwatch because we needed a three-bedroom place where my son could have a couple of friends along. The room looked nicely furnished and recently updated, and the staff, amenities, and upkeep were all very good. Our group had a good stay and we’d come back if we needed three bedrooms again. The resort has a lot of space between buildings and a large lake, though it seems to have a similar number of buildings and rooms to Grande Ocean or Barony Beach Club. There are three pools: one outdoors in the main resort, another by the ocean a long way off, and a large indoor pool. The mid-island location keeps it away from downtown’s bustle, which has pros and cons. One practical note: Tide Mark had just one elevator. Our child had broken her ankle and was using a wheelchair, and since we were on the third floor, we did wonder what we’d do if it stopped working during the vacation. It didn’t, but it crossed our minds.

Our garden-view room looked out over the lake, and it was an easy walk to the main lobby, where there were lots of activities nearby. The beach was also walkable, though they offer golf cart rides if you’d rather not go on foot.

The property is beautiful, but I didn’t feel respected as a longtime loyal Marriott platinum member. Car trouble made us arrive late, so I asked for a late checkout during a quiet off-season period with low occupancy. They reluctantly gave me just one extra hour, until 11:00 am. I wasn’t pleased.

Ben at the front desk was consistently accommodating, and the bar drinks were great. We also found the walk to the beach easy, with golf carts available whenever we wanted a ride. Our pool-facing room worked especially well for us since we love spending time at the pool. I wasn’t a fan of people throwing balls in it, though I understand it keeps kids and parents occupied. We really enjoyed our stay at Marriott SurfWatch and would recommend it.

We traded into Marriott SurfWatch for the second time, and this Christmas family trip was even better than our first visit. They placed us toward the back, nearer the beach, with beach-front views. I’d recommend this resort and Marriott Barony Beach Club Resort too. Both offer great accommodations, amenities, and locations. Thanks, Marriott, for making our family Christmas so enjoyable.
