Be cautious about renting here. Beach Properties HHI manages several of these places, and the pool is STILL closed. The Marina pool has been shut for two years. I spoke with two other renters who had the same experience: they were misled about pools, cleanliness, amenities, beds, and linens. The management company is owned by a very powerful real estate lawyer in Hilton Head, so good luck getting compensation if you've been misled. Consider this a warning.
The condos at South Beach are nice and roomy, which worked well for time with our extended family. We could walk to the Salty Dog Cafe, South Beach Marina, and the Sea Pines Trolley stop.
We liked the villas and their convenient spot near the Salty Dog and nearby shops. The beach itself was lovely and not crowded the week after Labor Day, but getting there was awkward. We were about 100 yards from the "beach," then had to walk another 300 yards to the shoreline, which wasn't easy with kids and beach gear. Our unit also hadn't been cleaned well before we arrived, so we had to sweep and mop the kitchen floor.
Getting around by bike was a joy, thanks to the dedicated paths and Sea Pines' restricted access that cuts down on traffic. The South Beach location is ideal, meters from the point and across the street from the original Salty Dog Cafe.
A great choice for a Sea Pines vacation, or a second home for the family.
