At midnight in a severe thunderstorm, four couples and their children were suddenly left with nowhere to go. Our cabin in Hochatown had been struck by lightning and caught fire during what was meant to be a fun weekend with family and friends. We rushed 8 adults and 7 children out, and within seconds the house filled with black smoke. Going back inside would have meant risking serious injury or death. With spring break starting, nearby lodges and hotels were booked, so I remembered seeing this place and stopped in to ask for help. People were still in the rec center/lobby. As soon as I explained what had happened, they cleared the lobby and brought out beds, cots, and air mattresses, along with blankets and pillows from every room. I’ll always be grateful for what they did for my family when we were desperate. Thank you for the hospitality.

We had fun with our group, and the room air conditioning worked fairly well, but I wouldn’t recommend renting here. For $5000 for 3 nights and 4 days, we found pills in one bathroom sink, broken fridges in three other rooms, and a doorknob that came off in another. The pool was full of bugs, its step railing was loose, and both the pool and hot tub had cracks in the concrete. The hot tub was hot, but the jets didn’t work. The furniture and pool table in the wss were broken, and the ice maker is quite small. Now the rental price is going up to $9000 next year.

Our church group has been coming for about five years, and it’s been a really great place for us. Some new couches would help, but it’s still great for our group.

The parking lot is too tight if you’re towing a boat, and the beds are terrible. We’ve rented this lodge for 6 years, and they’re still the same beds from when it was new. Room 3 has a shower tub with a fiberglass patch like one from an auto body shop. The couches are worn out and broken down, and it doesn’t seem like maintenance is being put back into the place. The price doubled in one year. We paid $5200 for 3 nights this year, then called to book next year and were quoted $9990. They advertise on vrbo for $1890 per night, so don’t fall for this place.

This was our second family reunion here, and the kids had a blast. Everything was great, well maintained, easy to use, and had what we needed for a fun getaway.
