Hollywood by the Sea Hotel

It's nice and quiet here, right next to the beach, and just a short walk from restaurants. There's extra parking for when our friends want to meet us at the beach. This is my second visit, and I love coming here. I'll be back.

The people were unfriendly, and check-in took forever. We had to walk three blocks to check in, and only then were we told we'd have to pay extra for parking. We couldn't get our money back. They lied by not telling us about the parking fee, and I need to investigate this place. Not nice at all, ugly people.

We left the morning after checking in because the room was so unsanitary. There were roaches and droppings everywhere, mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers, roach eggs, and mold on the ceiling vents and around the refrigerator. The air-conditioner box was barely attached to the back door window. The place smelled of insecticide when we arrived for our first night, after booking through Expedia. They gave us a filthy, broken pack and play for our infant son, too. We messaged several times, but staff didn't respond. There was no cleaning person available to change the sheets either at check-in or when we got back from work. We were there on business and only needed somewhere to sleep, so both nights we went straight to bed in the dirty room. I had to shower as soon as we got home, and later got an eye infection that I think came from the dingy pillow. I was told the hotel had offered us another property, but no one ever contacted me. When I asked the front desk at 1925 Oklahoma ave, the woman said they had no rooms available and we could stay in that room or leave. They told Expedia something different. The owner's response said they'd investigate, but they could have done that when I first raised it. I'm going to report the place to the local health department. Stay away and check your clothes and shoes before you get home if you do stay. You may want to check for bed bugs too. Expedia should stop listing this dump, and I'd shop for a hotel yourself instead of using Expedia. I stayed at the Sonesta in Ft Lauderdale afterward, a beautiful place next to the strip, with great front desk staff and valet. Ask for Ford. Google reviews can't be taken down, so I hope enough people see this. This place should be shut down, and I'll contact the health department to help make sure no families get sick. I also think Expedia reviews are fake, since the one-word posts look like they could be from staff or paid reviewers. Good luck with the inspection.

The room had no soundproofing, so we could hear everything from next door and upstairs. The back door didn't lock, and we had to leave a chair against it. Parking was another problem: after paying over $100 for three days, we were assigned a spot and then told to park across the street, where the car could possibly be towed. The lot itself was awful. Staff were extremely rude, and even basic things they said were provided had to be requested one by one. There were no paper towels in the kitchenette.
