Hollywood Sunrise

For what we paid, being near the beach and having a microwave to heat a quick meal and eat breakfast in the room made this a good value. The walls are thin, and the AC stays on, so nights get chilly. It wasn’t perfect, but our stay at the Hollywood Sunrise was much better than the reviews made it sound. For that price, I’d give it five stars.

I’m a transplant patient, so clean bedding is a health necessity for me. When we finally got back into the room, the sheets had visible yellow stains, and we didn’t feel safe staying there, so we left. Earlier, the room was 78°F because the AC wasn’t working, and there was no maintenance person on site. That evening the door code stopped working and we were locked out for about 40 minutes before anyone came. There was no management or maintenance on the premises, so any problem means waiting for someone to show up. Given all this, we can’t recommend the place.

The room was clean, and the location was good, but I came mainly to rest and barely slept either night. Guests in a nearby room argued and had sex all night, with a woman yelling “baby”; another couple did the same the second night. I was woken up several times, including at 7am, and heard a woman yelling “Tommy” day and night. The doors are so thin you can hear everything your neighbors do, and they can hear you too. The AC stayed on the whole time and I was kind of cold. There are lots of restrictions and rules. They give you just one small towel, have no room service or extra amenities, and there wasn’t coffee in my room, only a coffee maker. Any question or request has to go through a text or portal, which frustrated me. They also tell you only after payment that your card may be charged if something breaks or goes bad during the stay. If it’s ordinary wear and tear, you could end up paying for something that wasn’t your fault. The price didn’t feel worth it when there are cheaper, nicer places nearby with better service and even complimentary breakfast. This place mostly offers a location, a bed and a TV. I was disappointed and won’t stay here again.

I lost the money for my two-night stay after JetBlue cancelled my flight during last week’s snowstorm in NY. I called Hollywood Sunrise more than 24 hours ahead, but nobody ever answers the phone; it’s an unattended business. A bot texted asking how it could help. I explained the situation and asked to move my dates, not for a refund. They replied with the cancellation policy: no refund and no changes. Another hotel on the same trip changed my booking right away, but Sunrise wouldn’t help at all. If you have a problem or question, expect no answer or assistance. Don’t lose your money like I did, stay somewhere else. I’m editing this because of the response below. This was definitely Hollywood Sunrise. I have messages and emails from the establishment, and they have my first and last name and can look up my reservation. Lying on top of everything else. Wow.
