The Charter House

I booked for one night, but left after about three hours and dropped the key at the office. By then the office had closed, even though it was only after 6. What are guests supposed to do for late check-in or service after that? The room had been cleaned, but there was dust on the fan, mold in the shower and bathroom, old moldy equipment, and a cigarette burn in the bed. It felt like a drug house or shelter, and I've stayed in better motels. The whole place looked run down, and I don't understand how it passes health inspections.

The staff were kind, and this complaint isn't about them. The room was awful: there was no bathroom door handle, white stains behind the bed, and no soap or towels. The outside, toilets, and mattresses were all run down. We didn't feel safe, so we stayed somewhere else. I wouldn't spend money here.

I booked two nights but left the next morning after staying only one. The room smelled like a wet, dirty dog, and it set off my asthma. It looked nothing like the photos, and I can't understand the five-star reviews unless those people haven't stayed in a hotel or visited ten years ago. The blinds were broken, so people could see right in. The sheets were stained, there were no towels, old food was in the fridge, the TV didn't work, and the dresser drawers were broken. People were rude, too. This was the worst hotel I've stayed at. It doesn't deserve even one star, but zero wasn't an option.

I booked two rooms for the week of March 23, 2026, then called the week before and confirmed them with a staff member. When we flew in on March 23, the Charter house was shut down. I called several times and had to find somewhere else to stay for the week. Another hotel told me they'd heard of this happening 20-30 times in the previous two weeks.
