Douglas Waikiki

It’s odd being up on the 26th floor in a busy city when I’m used to a small-town single-family home, so I find it hard to judge this place properly. The building says “Royal Kuhio” at the front, and it’s quite dated, though it’s getting a facelift. Still, it’s secure, clean, comfortable, centrally located, and reasonably priced. Douglas Waikiki doesn’t really seem to exist, even though we’re leaving a review here. I’d have no hesitation recommending it to family or friends who need somewhere to stay in Waikiki.

The pool was closed for construction, and nobody told me when I booked. There was no one around to answer questions, and the lockbox for my room key was broken. The listing promised an “ocean or diamondhead” view, but I had neither. Street noise made it hard to sleep. Read the emails carefully, because that’s all the information you’ll get. Once you arrive, you’re on your own. Very disappointed.

It’s a little dated, but clean, nice enough, and close to Waikiki Beach. It wasn’t too expensive, and the room had a fully functioning kitchen.

For $100 a night, this was a great value. It’s three blocks from the beach and has a full kitchen. I’d definitely stay here again for the price.
