Holiday Surf Hotel

Just two blocks from Waikiki Beach, with plenty of places nearby to eat, drink, and shop. The price was very reasonable. It’s a basic hotel, but there’s daily room cleaning and a full-size fridge/freezer and cooker for self-catering.

I booked through Booking.com for our family Christmas trip, with non-refundable rooms for December 25-29, 2025. Booking.com and/or the owner, Patrick Chun, canceled the reservation without my knowledge or notice. I discovered in October that it had been canceled back in August, then contacted Booking.com and the hotel manager right away. Booking.com said the hotel had canceled it. Patrick denied that and said Booking.com was responsible. They canceled the booking and kept my money. Patrick wouldn’t refund the full amount, and offered to honor the rooms only if I paid another $508.05. Booking.com had refunded just $303.58, so I asked why he wanted more and how he’d arrived at those figures. The whole thing felt extremely shady, and I felt he was trying to scam me for extra money. I’ve been a loyal Booking.com customer since 2017 and am a Genius Level 3 member. I’ve never dealt with anything like this. They canceled my booking, charged me because it was non-refundable, then didn’t provide the service. He even gave me a week to respond. This is unethical and unfair business practice. I hope you feel good about ruining our family vacation, Patrick, and about the $1,523.72 you effectively stole from us. I won’t recommend this hotel.

The room was clean and a good size, and service was quick and efficient. The location was the best part: quiet by the canal, but only a block from the action and Waikiki beach.

The parking cost $47 a night, and pets were also $47 per night. The AC was very old and unbearably loud. Even with earplugs, we couldn’t sleep. The hotel is on a noisy street, so opening the windows wasn’t an option, and the old windows didn’t block the sound. This is a very basic hotel. They have particular rules for towel changes: put used towels in a plastic bag and leave it outside. They charge $25 if you leave a towel loose, without a bag. Room cleaning and supplies are only provided Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Thursday was the only service day during our stay, and they still didn’t bring shampoo, soap, or toilet paper, so bring your own if you book. At check-in, they offered us 20% off parking if we wrote a very good review. If I’d seen someone mention that in their feedback, I never would have booked. We chose to write honestly so others don’t make the same mistake. This was our worst hotel in years. Definitely don’t recommend it.
