Pacific Marina Inn Airport Hotel

The room floor was dirty, especially in the bathroom, and there was mold in the shower. When I asked staff to look, they dismissed the concern. At checkout, we requested the shuttle at 7:02 a.m. because there was a line at the counter. Staff were available and the van was parked outside, but they wouldn’t take us to the airport. The shuttle was supposed to run every 30 minutes, and they told us to wait until 7:30. We ended up paying for an Uber. Terrible service again, this time from different staff. The night before, water dripping from the air conditioner had soaked into the mattress and left a puddle. I showed an employee the wet bed and the visible, obvious leak. The manager refused our request for an upgrade, saying the rooms were full, even though during check-in she’d offered to sell us those same upgrades. I’d uploaded a photo showing the property owner telling another customer to ask the front desk for an upgrade after a complaint. I did ask, but it wasn’t honored, and the manager avoided speaking to me directly. Awful customer service. Stay somewhere else and spare yourself the trouble.

The return trip to the airport went smoothly, and shuttle driver Emil was very nice. The woman who picked us up was also kind and sympathetic when we explained what had happened. The desk staff could learn from the drivers about customer service. Our arrival was a different story. The Front Desk sent us to the wrong shuttle pickup spot, so we waited an hour and a half. When we called after more than an hour, she hung up on us. At the hotel, one of the two Front Desk ladies didn’t acknowledge us, even though no one else was waiting in front of her. We stood there for about 5-10 minutes before she called our name to check us in, so she knew who we were. Maybe she was busy with paperwork, maybe it was deliberate. Either way, a quick “I’ll be with you shortly” would’ve helped. She didn’t apologize or mention the shuttle delay, and we didn’t bring it up because we didn’t want to make a scene. Pacific Marina is a low-budget hotel with high HI prices. The airport location and shuttle make it useful for a one-night stay, which we knew going in. We didn’t expect the rudeness at the front desk, and that made the experience negative.

We were lucky the beds were clean, and we only needed the room to sleep. It was the weekend of the Honolulu marathon and a big concert, so we couldn’t book somewhere else. The rate didn’t have us expecting a Marriott, but it also didn’t prepare us for something barely a step above a hostel. The room was disgustingly dirty, with dust, grime, and dirt everywhere. The toilet wasn’t bolted to the floor, and the doors and shades didn’t close properly, letting in light and dust.

The bed was comfortable and clean, which mattered after a tiring trip. The room was dingy, though it smelled clean. Years of wear and humidity showed in peeling walls and dirty, worn-thin doors. There was a swamp cooler, and a half-inch gap beneath the room door left it unsealed against weather, insects, and heat. The location is very industrial, and the hotel is loud. There’s a park nearby, but it’s fenced off, so you have to walk around the corner to get in. I booked through expedia because of the location. It’s very close to the airport, right next to the metro, and has a reliable airport shuttle. If you like dive bars, as I do, you may not mind the place. I probably wouldn’t return, though it would depend on the price and why I was staying. Sleeping through the metro noise is part of the deal.
