Pagoda Hotel

On day 10, we got an email saying smoking and vaping weren’t allowed in the hotel. That’s fine, but since our first day the whole 9th floor had smelled of weed and bad perfume. The experience felt sneaky and uncomfortable. We’ve visited many parts of the island, and this is our fourth time on Oahu. This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had. The $43-a-day resort fee was announced at check-in. The hotel’s website and many platforms show a restaurant, a nice garden area, and a decent-sized pool. The restaurant was under construction, the garden was closed for construction, and the pool could maybe fit 5-8 people if they stood still. What was the resort fee for? My husband and I know how difficult housekeeping work is, and we try to help by taking most of our trash to the outside garage instead of leaving it by our door. Rooms are cleaned every four days. On day eight, the scheduled cleaning day, the front desk called to say they’d charge us extra for cleaning because of the trash in our room: both trash cans and a half bag with two plastic bottles in it.

The room was pleasant and the mattress comfortable. I hadn’t seen roll-up louvered windows in a while. Staff were friendly and courteous, the rate was good, and the location was convenient. Street noise was much lower than at other inner-city hotels I’ve stayed at. I visited last November for the first time. The hotel felt a bit hidden to me, but I’d definitely recommend it. Maybe I’ll try the breakfast on my next visit.

I’d never stayed at the Pagoda Hotel before, but when I return to Oahu for fun, I’ll definitely stay there again. Carlos and the rest of the front desk knew why I was there, and everyone showed me so much kindness and moral support when I really needed it. The Pagoda Hotel has real charm, and the staff are full of Aloha. Mahalo to all of you. I look forward to seeing you again for a fun visit. I’ve lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for 16 years. Recently I had to go to Oahu for neurosurgery at Queen's Medical to remove a couple of aneurysms in my brain. Dr. Ferdinand Hui quite literally saved my life. He and the neurosurgery staff were professional, caring, kind, warm, and Aloha. I was understandably terrified of brain surgery, and so were my friends and my 26-year-old daughter Lily, who lives on Maui with her boyfriend. We lost Lily’s father a couple of years ago, and she was scared something would happen to me. Lily says I’m “not allowed to die” until I’m 100, so I have at least 38 more years to live. : ) My wonderful health care facility Hawaii Island Community Health arranged all my travel, and my wonderful insurance company HMSA Quest paid for everything. I’m profoundly grateful. The surgery went really well, thank God. I feel good and am looking forward to the future. Until then, Mahalo, Kimber : )

Laundry was really handy, though it costs $10 for two loads, so pick that up at check-in and save yourself time. There can also be a line at evening check-in, so allow a little extra time if you’re arriving late. We had a fantastic stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. We never adjusted to Hawaii time and were going to bed early, around 7-9 p.m. most nights, so the quiet helped. The staff were incredibly friendly. The gentleman who checked us in was outstanding and made us feel welcome right away. Parking was easy, with spaces at the front or back. The pool looked inviting, but we didn’t use it since we went to the beach every day. The location couldn’t have been better. Restaurants, shops, and the beach were all within walking distance, and after parking the car we didn’t need it again. For the quality and prime location, the price was very good compared with other places nearby. We’d definitely return. Highly recommended.
