Hamakua Guesthouse

It felt like a safe, cozy home at Hamakua Guest house. The guests, volunteers, managers, and owner all felt like family, and the secluded property was lush with greenery and fruit. I’m so grateful for the time I spent here and wouldn’t choose anywhere else. Thank you Mathew.

The waterfall swimming spot was one of my favorite parts, such a magical place to unwind and feel close to nature. There’s also a handbook with ideas for things to do nearby. I chose Hamakua Guesthouse for my birthday and couldn’t have picked a better place. The views are breathtaking, and the property is full of lush greenery, avocado, orange, and other fruit trees, which made everything feel so peaceful and fresh. My room was beautiful and cozy, with a lot of thoughtful design. I also liked that the guesthouse is off-grid and uses rainwater and other sustainable practices. It felt good to know they’re conserving resources and taking care of the environment. My stay felt like a blessing, a beautiful, peaceful place to rest and recharge.

Swimming at the waterfall was great, and the cabanas are adorable. It was a fun glamping stay with access to the shared kitchen house. The place isn’t especially private, but the staff were fantastic, kind, and always helpful. It felt like staying with friends.

We were camping on Big Island and decided at the last minute to spend our final night here. So glad we did. The screened-in cabana let us hear nature through the night and early morning, and the hammocks were surprisingly comfortable. It was very affordable, and I’d definitely stay again.
