Sunset Resort

The beds were actually comfortable, which made a huge difference for me as someone with chronic pain. I could enjoy the activities, and the staff, especially Eric, were so accommodating that we quickly felt like friends. We took the kayaks and pedal boat out on the lake, and even my 6-year-old felt safe in the shallow water by the dock. At night, we had a little fire on our patio while the kids played games in the lounge; other guests used the lakeside fire pits. I usually look for somewhere remote, and on the drive up I expected more of a motel setup. I was wrong. It was peaceful and fun, and I can’t wait to return.

There was plenty of room for our group, and we had fun checking out the resort’s little details. It’s a charming spot right by the lake, and the host was happy to help with anything we needed. We’ll definitely visit again.

The owners were great, and the place felt a bit like home. Everything was clean and there were lots of amenities. A few groups of friends and I stayed on the top floor of the large house a couple of years ago for a wedding down the road at my friend’s lakefront house. After we left, we realized we’d forgotten a few things, and the owner kindly brought them to my friend’s cottage. That alone was excellent service. There’s also a great deck, a sunroom, an activity room, and lovely scenery. I highly recommend this resort.

The owner even fixed a flat tire on our rental van, which was a real help. We had a memorable stay at this friendly resort in Houghton lake. My family stayed in a cabin and the main house in late August 2020. All the rooms were clean, roomy, and accommodating. We also rented the pontoon, and as first-time novices, we appreciated how knowledgeable the owner was in getting us comfortable with the boat.
