Candlewood Suites Houston NW - Willowbrook

I had no other option while traveling for work, so I stayed about six days. The hallways and elevator smelled awful. On my third night I started itching, but didn’t think much of it. By the time I got home after the last day, I had bites all over me. I told the manager I was worried there might be bed bugs or other insects in the room. She said there were no bugs and promised to call me back, but more than four days have passed and I haven’t heard from her. She pointed out that residents who’d lived there for seven years or more had never been bitten by bed bugs. But other people come and go from those rooms and could bring them in from somewhere else. The staff are unprofessional and don’t seem concerned about guest health. Management is terrible. Don’t stay here, it’s not worth the money.

I was surprised by how nice the suite was, since I’d never stayed in one before. We had a third floor king suite for three days and two nights, with enough kitchenware for four people using it daily or two people over a weekend. The couch pulled out into a bed, and the bathtub was a comfortable size. There’s a lending closet with extra kitchen items and board games, plus a well-kept gym and free laundry. The pool is small, so you might be better off driving to a beach. The hotel’s location was okay, though nothing special. It’s tucked between two smaller motels and a gated used car dealership, and the room had no special view. Still, we had a great stay, and I’m looking forward to booking again for our next trip in September.

The room was pretty clean, and it was nice that they’d already made the fridge cold when I arrived. It’s a typical room for this kind of hotel. Some staff seemed really annoyed if you even breathed near them. I’m not kidding, they looked irritated when I bought things from the cupboard. The first night the whole place smelled like weed, and the people next door played music so loudly my headboard was vibrating. There are only two washers, they’re always in use, and when I finally got one, it broke. So far it hasn’t been the worst stay, but I don’t get why so many people give the place five stars.

My family was dealing with a traumatic event, and the hotel made us feel even less comfortable. Our insurance booked us in while we had to evacuate home, which is already a horrible feeling. The staff acted as if we were inconveniencing them by needing temporary housing. The room arrangements were wrong. When I asked for a change, or at least for a note to switch us once the right room was available, the manager, Jai, was rude and hung up on me. When we got to the room, there was a cockroach in the kitchen. If a third party hadn’t paid for our weekly stay, we would’ve left right away. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. The hotel is in a good shopping district, with restaurants and movies nearby.
