Fairfield Inn & Suites Houston Energy Corridor/Kat

I had planned to stay several days, but after arriving late because of a flight delay, I found a dirty tub with bugs in it that wouldn't drain. The toilet was dirty too, and there were mattresses in the windows of several rooms. In the morning there was no coffee, and the pool was completely shut down. The place seemed like it was on its last leg. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The staff were really friendly, and the hotel was quiet at night and even during the day. The area felt safe and was close to plenty of things. Our room was a good size, and the beds were comfortable, but the air had a damp smell. The bathroom was spacious, though the water only got lukewarm, never hot. The hotel and rooms clearly haven't been updated in years. We arrived a little before breakfast opened at 7 on Sunday, and when it did open at 7, the spread was disappointing. I didn't have a terrible stay, but I'd only come back for a quick night.

The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and the desk staff were polite. Those are why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. The rest was rough: the hotel was dirty, my wife spotted a roach in the bathroom, and the maid left a cleaning cloth in the tub. The common areas were unusually warm, the breakfast sign said there'd be no coffee, and the pool was closed. I lifted weights in the fitness room and got black gunk on my hands. One morning the shower stopped working. The front desk said nobody was there to fix it and suggested another room, though it was fixed by the end of the day. We almost always stay at Marriotts and were surprised by how bad this one was.

Calling the front desk didn't help. The room phone didn't work, and when I tried the hotel on my cell, nobody answered. The room service person also knocked at 8 a.m. and came into the room, waking me up after I'd gone to bed late. The breakfast ended at 9, but at 8:30 the eggs and protein were gone. When I asked if more was coming, they said they normally don't add any after that time. There was mold by the shower, and the hotel had no A/C outside the rooms. In Houston, TX, in June, it was hot enough to notice. From outside the place looked okay, like it had been given a paint job, but inside it felt like makeup covering things up. What a disappointing experience. Whoever's running the hotel is definitely hurting the Marriott Brand.
