Hampton Inn Houston Downtown Convention Center

The staff had my room ready for a quick arrival after a rough delay. My flight was meant to land at midnight but didn't get in until 5 a.m., and they had already checked me in so I could grab a key and get to my room fast. They also gave me a much-needed late checkout. The room was clean and the staff were really great. I'd absolutely stay here again because of how accommodating they were.

The lobby is spacious and welcoming, and the hotel itself is okay, though nothing special. A couple of things were frustrating: the room door handle opens by turning upward, which feels backwards, and the bed labeled “king” felt more like a queen. As a Hilton Honors member, I also had trouble getting the two complimentary waters I was supposed to receive.

We were welcomed warmly, and check-in was quick and easy. The room, though, didn’t feel clean: there were used water bottles under the beds, and the area around the toilet needed attention. The iron didn’t work properly. I told the front desk the next morning and was promised a replacement, but it never came. I didn’t feel this was a particularly clean place to stay.

We got to the hotel at 11 pm, freezing, and the shower in our room barely dripped. The room had no heat, and the air conditioning kept blowing cold air even when turned down. We were unpacked and undressed to shower when we found out, then called the front desk while we were shivering. Before we could explain much, they offered to move us, so it seemed they already knew about the broken shower but had still let the room be booked. One valet was really nice and the service otherwise was alright, but this was a terrible stay. I don’t know how the hotel has a 4.2 rating.
