Homewood Suites By Hilton HOU Intercontinental

The rooms were clean, the towels were neatly folded, and the beds were comfortable and tidy. But the shower water never got hotter than lukewarm, and breakfast was disappointing, with stale tortillas and very greasy meat and eggs. It wasn’t the worst stay, but not having a hot shower or a breakfast I could enjoy took away from the experience.

The room was clean and well maintained, and breakfast met the usual Homewood standard. For the price, the value was okay to good, and it was the cheapest of the 15 Hilton hotels we stayed at across different brands on our four-week drive from New York to Houston. In hindsight, maybe that should have been a warning. There was nobody at the front desk when we arrived, just a “Back in 5 minutes” sign that stayed up for what felt like ages. The pool looked out onto a busy multilane highway, so it wasn’t relaxing or inviting. We chose this hotel for its airport access, but we’d look elsewhere next time. It wasn’t the pleasant ending we’d hoped for after an otherwise wonderful trip.

Breakfast is great, and everything else was good too. Just know the front desk clerk is often in the back room, so you have to ring the bell to get their attention. Once I figured that out, I didn’t have to wait around when I wanted to ask something or reserve an airport shuttle. At first I only saw the sign saying the clerk was “temporarily away,” so I waited longer than I needed to.

The suites are roomy and comfortable, with kitchenettes and modern amenities that make the place convenient for a short stay or a longer one. It’s clean and well kept, and the staff are friendly and professional. There’s free breakfast and easy access to the airport, which makes it a reliable option for travelers.
