Hotel Granduca Houston

I can see why my colleague spends so much time at Hotel Granduca (HG). The hotel is beautiful, elegant, and has an old-world feel. The team are friendly and attentive without getting in the way. WiFi is strong, and the accommodations work well for meetings or quiet work. Lunch was the real treat. We had a delicious gourmet meal at prices you’d expect from a good, reasonably priced restaurant. Their Caesar salad has crumbled croutons that add a unique flavor and texture, and that detail has stayed with me since I ate there. It may sound silly, but the restrooms are beautiful too, and they provide hand towels after you wash your hands. After that, it’s hard to go back to paper towels. I hope to spend more time there in the future.

Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant has plenty to offer. Houston has lots of options, especially nearby, but the quality and value here are hard to top. We always have a fantastic stay, and it really does feel like a home away from home. The staff are warm and helpful, even when we travel with a toddler, and the atmosphere feels classy and intimate. The rooms are spacious, well appointed, and have some of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in. I’m told the recent remodel was finished in April, and the lobby now looks very upscale. My only small complaint is the slow laptop download speed. Email and regular browsing should be fine, though. It’s an elegant hotel in a great part of Houston.

The decor and atmosphere were lovely, but I’m not sure I’d do afternoon tea again for $85. I’ve had a better experience at other places. The tea itself was lukewarm, and the sandwiches had so much plain cream cheese that I could barely taste the bread or anything else. It was just okay overall.

I’ve just come back from another lovely stay, and Hotel Granduca remains my favorite place in Houston. As an independent luxury hotel, Granduca has a distinctive feel, and it’s the only Leading Hotels of the World property in the city. The decor is beautiful, the details feel carefully considered, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. We got great service. I highly recommend it.
