The IAH Houston Hotel

The only real upside here was the breakfast. The outside area and surroundings were unpleasant, and the staff were rude, so the price didn’t feel justified. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We booked a weekly rate and initially thought the place seemed nice. Four days in, housekeeping told my ten-year-old son that we had to check out because this wasn’t an extended-stay hotel. The maids hadn’t cleaned our room once during our two weeks there. My kids caused no problems, and my dogs didn’t bark or make a mess. When I tried to speak with staff about why a maid was discussing our situation with my child, the younger front desk employee refused to call the manager or GM and said she was the manager. My son is incontinent and had accidents on both beds overnight. We turned in all the linens, including blankets, but none were returned, leaving my kids and me without sheets or blankets for over a week. I was also told the blankets aren’t washed or changed between guests, which was disgusting. The property is still taking reservations under the Hyatt Place name, but when we arrived it was being run by a family as the Iah Houston hotel. Being forced to leave was especially disruptive because it was convenient for my work and close to my property while I waited for the closing and installation of my new manufactured home. I had to scramble for another hotel and move all our belongings, which took five car trips.

The location made it easy to get to nearby attractions, restaurants, and shops, and the pool, fitness center, and on-site dining were all well maintained or delicious. They exceeded what I expected. My room was spotless, nicely designed, and had everything I needed. The bed was especially comfortable, the toiletries were good quality, and the minibar was well stocked. Housekeeping kept things fresh and tidy throughout my stay. Staff were welcoming and attentive, and check-in was quick and easy. I’d gladly return and recommend the hotel to people traveling for work or leisure.

The hotel was very clean, but the service and communication let me down. I chose it specifically because I expected an airport shuttle and wanted to avoid paying for an Uber. The shuttle was no longer operating, and the hotel wouldn’t offer complimentary transport or cover even half my Uber fare. If you need to stay near the airport, I wouldn’t recommend it. Pick somewhere else.

While I was trying to check in, the receptionist was arguing with someone who seemed to be the manager about not being paid. I ended up leaving and contacted them to ask for a refund, but got nowhere.
