Ocean Surf Inn & Suites

We were in town for a memorial at the Military Cemetery, where our son received Dad's flag and the shells from the rifle salute. It was a sad trip, but the kindness of everyone at the Suite helped make it a better memory. Leslie welcomed us warmly when we arrived tired from our flight. Our room was ready a little early, which was a big help with my back in extreme pain. It was clean, quiet and updated, with a rustic but modern look, and the beach was a short walk away, just as I remembered from growing up in Southern California. Breakfast was great, with cute pancakes, pastries, juice and fruit. Sean, the main manager, was very friendly, and housekeeping brought extra towels with a smile. Our son stayed across the hall. Thank you all. I can't wait to come back.

We stayed just one night before boarding a cruise the next day. The woman at the front desk was welcoming, and when we mentioned it was my husband's birthday, she put his name on a surfboard in the lobby.

The jackhammering made this stay miserable. We were there in December with our little one, and nobody told us the parking lot concrete directly below our room would be torn up every day from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The walls shook and pictures nearly came off; our ears rang even inside the room. It was unbearable and no place for a child. After we got home, I asked management or the owner to credit some of the more than $600 we prepaid, over $200 a night. They refused to give back even a penny, and there was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. The owner and management seemed greedy and unethical to me, and the service was the worst. The rooms were dirty, dusty and full of mold and mildew. The so-called continental breakfast was just prepackaged gas station food. There are better places nearby. I don't recommend staying here. Also, there's no ocean view.

Ocean Surf was a nice place to stay, with a short walk to the beach for amazing sunsets. A diner and a taco place with live music are also just a few minutes away on foot. The staff were helpful and friendly, and they made breakfast in the morning. The room was clean for a beach hotel, with fresh towels and linens, though a few things need repair or attention. Some outlets were loose and wouldn't hold a charger. I'd come back if I needed somewhere with cool vibes in the Sunset Beach area.
