The outside looks much better than the inside, though the hotel was quiet and close to pretty much everything. The front desk woman was polite and attentive, and check-in went smoothly. But the room was badly outdated and nasty. The bed was just okay, maybe a 5 out of 10, which was about what I expected for the price. They could make this a decent stay with small upgrades: remove the carpet, replace the stained chairs, wipe down the walls, and get rid of the moldy shower curtain. We might stay again if we return to Alabama, provided the rooms are clean. I’ll include pictures.
When I finally got a room after an issue with the payment from Booking, it wasn’t the king bed I’d booked, but a full-size one. It was worn out enough that I could feel the metal frame, and the room smelled of mold and mildew. The door took a hard push to close before the deadbolt would lock, and daylight and streetlights showed beneath it. The gap looked big enough to let rain soak the carpet. The bathroom was tiny, I had to remove the shower head to get water from the faucet, and there was no hair dryer. At the desk, they said all the doors looked that way, their records showed a king bed, and they were only workers who didn’t own the place, so my complaints didn’t matter. They also called this their best room, the one everyone asks for. I’d booked online, but on arrival they said Booking hadn’t processed the payment and couldn’t give me the room until someone finally showed up. Stay away from this location.
I’ve been coming here on and off for more than a decade. The newer people I’m just getting to know are great, and Keith is still as humble as ever. Years ago, when I was going through abuse and other bad times, the old owners and Keith tried to help me. I was too afraid to accept it, and I missed a good opportunity. I probably lived here for almost a year then. I’m in a bad spot again and trying to get my life together, and if that opportunity ever came up again, I’d take it in a heartbeat. They’ve cleaned the place up a lot, and it’s one of the handful of hotels or motels where I feel comfortable staying. The employees seem to have almost a family bond, which is great. I’d work and live here if I could, and I’d keep working here afterward. The other week I accidentally locked myself in the laundry room, which was actually funny. I called the front desk, and Keith came to save the day. Booking online this time went smoothly, as it has before.
I ended up spending the night with a friend after the front desk said it was too late to rent by the week. The room was large, with a bigger TV, a medium-size fridge, vinyl plank floors, and fresh paint. The bathroom was clean and looked newer. But the outlets need replacing because they won’t hold plugs in. I had to prop the nightstand against one just to keep the light plugged in. I’ll update if I’m able to get a weekly room and can comment on its condition.
My family had car trouble, so we walked over and sat at this place for a little while. We planned to get a room the next morning when we had money, but management was rude and wouldn’t listen to what I was saying. They took offense when I said “God bless you.” Tell that uncaring person I’ll pray for him.
