I booked at the last minute, the same week, so I can't complain too much. By then all the other hotels were over $250 a night, and I was glad to find an affordable rate. I told the property when I booked that I'd be arriving late, called again that day, and they received the notice right away. The location was great, close to downtown Hyannis and a short drive from food spots.

The bathroom at Hyannis Host Inn had a mold and mildew smell that became overpowering after I showered the first night. I started feeling congested. Leaving the room for a few hours brought relief, but the symptoms returned and got worse when I came back. The odor filled the room despite running every fan and even buying an air purifier at the Home Depot up the road. After checkout, I contacted manager Sonal Patel, who hadn't been working when I left. The concierge couldn't leave the desk to inspect the bathroom. Ms. Patel was kind and sympathetic, said recent work had been done in the room, and suggested the shower work might not have been sealed properly. She said a refund wasn't hers to issue and directed me to Hotels.com, where I'd booked. Hotels.com and its owner Expedia spent hours contacting her for approval to refund the remaining stay, but the requests were denied. In calls with me, Ms. Patel said she wasn't denying the refund and that Expedia's process was the problem. She was supportive when I said I'd try the next Expedia follow-up option. I thought it was worth pursuing since the hotel manager seemed to agree I deserved a refund. But after an Expedia agent described a conversation in which she had denied the request for a second time, with details too specific to dismiss, I called Ms. Patel again. When I raised those details, she contradicted herself three times in about a minute, then admitted she wouldn't approve the refund through Expedia or Hotels.com because of the required process and probably the financial loss. I found that personable bait-and-switch especially foul, and would rather she had simply been honest that she wasn't willing to approve a refund for my moldy room. The room was uninhabitable, and the inn still wouldn't refund the unused nights, which I'm sure they rebooked during the week of the 4th of July on Cape Cod. I don't expect much human decency from companies once their bottom line is involved, but this was a bizarre and deeply manipulative way to handle it. Unless your lungs and nasal passages are made of steel, avoid Hyannis Host Inn and manager Sonal Patel.

I was only there for one night, but I'd definitely return. The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were spotless. You can tell they take pride in the rooms and in how they treat people. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay.

I picked this place for a week because it was the cheapest and best deal. I was in town for a wedding and hadn't visited the area before. Despite the reviews, I decided to try it and had a great stay for the price. It’s in a prime spot, within walking distance of the Cape Cod Mall, and I had no problems. The hotel was quiet, close to lots of good restaurants, and the service was very nice. The pillows were flat as pancakes with no support, which is why I’m taking off a star. Otherwise, I’d recommend it to anyone on a budget wanting a good place in the middle of town, and I'd stay again.

Nice place, and I’d consider staying again. I didn't spend time on the property, but noticed a designated smoking area, along with the usual vending and ice machines. I liked having a fridge and microwave in the room. It's close to the mall, Wendy's, the airport, and lots of other things.
