Clarion Pointe Independence - Kansas City

We booked two nights, July 28-29, 2023, but left after the first night. The rooms were bad and not very clean, and there was noise from people up at all hours. I also saw a broken, unlocked pool gate, children around, and pool water so dirty you couldn't see the bottom. There were many people I took to be homeless drug users and sellers living there. I'm sure welfare cases. Stay 100 miles away from this dump.

We were promised a full refund because we didn't stay longer than 20 minutes, but it still hasn't arrived. We had to drive 40 minutes to another hotel in a tornado warning. When we first pulled up, I saw broken windows and doors, and people who seemed like drug dealers all over. The place had an ominous feeling, like you could be stabbed at any time. In the first room, a man was inside with the door padlocked; he'd broken in. The second room had a fire alarm that wouldn't stop beeping, so we had to remove its battery. Then we spotted cockroaches crawling by the TV, and that was the last straw. Do not stay here!

The third room they gave me was at least free of a person sleeping inside or cleaning carts, but it was still terrible. The TV didn't work, water pressure was poor, and half the lights were out. I wouldn't recommend this place. A friend staying there had much the same check-in experience and also said she'd never return. At check-in, they first sent me to a room that was already occupied. I'm sure the woman trying to sleep was as surprised as I was when I opened the door. The desk staff didn't apologize when I told them. They handed me another key and said housekeeping would be done in five minutes. I waited 45 minutes without seeing anyone go in to clean it, then went back and got a third room.

The women at the front desk were friendly and helpful, but the room was filthy and the price was high for what we got. There was hair in the tub, the sheets were dirty and smelled like cigarettes, and the floor was gross. When we asked for clean sheets, they brought a bedspread that was too small for the bed. Breakfast was cereal or plain waffles, without butter, fruit, eggs, muffins, or anything else. They only had those options because it was Sunday. If breakfast costs extra, they should provide something decent. The room wasn't worth the price. Cheap and dirty.
