I’ve spent months at dozens of Comfort Inns and usually choose the name because the service, cleanliness, and comfort tend to be predictable. That wasn’t my experience here. I’d like to think I saw the place at its worst, and I do like Comfort Inns, so I’d give this location another try. I heard the front desk tell a customer that ownership was changing, and I hope that brings the repairs and updates it needs. I also felt for the woman at checkout, who seemed sweet but overworked and mentioned working double shifts. I didn’t try breakfast, and although the hot tub sounded like a nice option, I didn’t use it. My room was reasonably clean, and the bed was clean and comfortable. It didn’t smell, but some things had been missed during cleaning, the furniture was quite worn, the bathroom door looked like it had been kicked in, there was a spider above the shower, and the toilet paper holder was broken. The windows looked almost completely hazy, which was strange. The room was the main exception to a facility that didn’t seem particularly clean. Chairs behind the desk were in terrible shape, the elevator wasn’t working, and ceiling tiles were missing from the second-floor hall, alongside mismatched colored lights. The landscape lights shining up at the hotel were flashing at night, and I could see it through my closed curtains. Odd, but not a big deal. The broken elevator was a real problem because everyone on the floor had to use the fire stairs, and the doors slammed every time. That wasn’t how I wanted to start the morning. There was also no greeting when I called, and the front desk felt unfriendly when I arrived. The website’s claim about a “new look and feel” didn’t match what I saw at all. The hotel seems years overdue for a remodel, though I’m giving it a generous three stars because it may be in transition. When I called, the place even felt like a budget hotel that rents rooms by the hour.

The beds and towels were clean, the staff were helpful, and the rates were affordable for a tired traveler. The front desk was especially helpful sorting out a fiasco. There were a few dings and bumps in the room, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work at the end of the hall to the right of the lobby. Outside, there’s a cute gazebo in a little park-like area with trees dropping autumn leaves. It’s near a couple of exits and close to food and gas, though the roundabouts can be a bit of a nightmare. I’d recommend it and would happily stay again.

The man at the desk was very nice and courteous, but the hotel itself was terrible. The whole place smelled old and pungent, the appearance was awful, and dirty carpet was everywhere. Water damage had left broken ceiling tiles visible from the lobby. The elevator quit working, so I had to take the stairs. In my room, the phone didn’t work, the towels and pillowcases were dirty, and the bed covers were torn. I could even open the wrong room with my key. I don’t understand how this place got five-star reviews. It wasn’t worth even one star.

Breakfast was available with decent choices, including eggs, sausage, waffles, pastries, and juice. The location also worked well for getting to downtown Carmel, Zionsville, Noblesville, or Fishers, though there’s nothing within walking distance, not even a gas station or fast food. The rooms aren’t terrible, but the place needs a refresh inside and out. We were there with the elevator broken, and the back entrance was propped open most of the time, with the bottom glass smashed. We tried not to think about how that happened. The listing says there’s a hot tub, but there isn’t one, just a pool. It needs a major update. Fine for a night while passing through, but I wouldn’t recommend a longer stay.

Shannon at the front desk acted as if she hated guests and was put out by any questions. It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. There was a missing section of ceiling in the upstairs hall, and everything outside the room looked run-down and dirty. The room itself was clean and in good shape, but the hotel needs work both physically and in its attitude. I don’t think the owners care.
