Hampton Inn by Hilton Indianapolis-South

We were here for my kids' competition, and the $225 nightly price felt outrageous. They'd raised it because the competition was nearby. The place seems worth $50 a night if you're desperate, and I'd tell people to go somewhere else. The room was dirty and looked as if it hadn't been dusted in years. First we found a fishy smell and hair on the bed, and the shower was broken. The desk offered to come up with a wrench, saying it happens a lot and would take a minute, but no thanks. We changed rooms. That shower worked, though water came out of both the top and bottom, so there was no pressure. We travel a lot, and this was easily one of the worst hotels we've stayed in. Completely unacceptable.

Coffee in the lobby was delicious, both bold and light roast, and available around the clock. They also had International Delight, creamers, and tea. There are stores for just about anything within five miles. The hotel was clean, the food was excellent, and the staff were friendly. It's welcoming to dogs and kids, with a pool and lots of space to walk a dog. The price felt right for what they offer. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

The nearby restaurants and stores made the location convenient, and the staff were friendly, professional, and quick to help. Breakfast was decent and about what we expected. We stayed at this Hilton twice, though both visits were underwhelming. The beds were stiff, and the small square decorative pillows made it hard to get comfortable. The HVAC was so loud it interfered with sleep and relaxing. The hotel feels outdated and could use modernization, and those comfort problems made it hard to enjoy our stays.

We came for my daughter's interview at UIndy, and check-in was quick and smooth. The room was very clean, including the spotless bedspreads and linens. The heating and cooling unit sits below the window, and it put out enough heat to keep us warm during the deep freeze.
