Hyatt Regency Indianapolis

We paid top dollar to be close to the cheer competition while supporting family, but the connection to the venue was about the only accommodation. The elevators broke and people got stuck, so we had to use the service elevators several times. Housekeeping knocked at 9 a.m. Rooms got very hot during the day, and the showers were cold with weak pressure. Parking was expensive and inconvenient for the competition, and the garage was extremely confusing. There was only one very crowded bathroom in the competition area, and no public bathrooms if you went back to the hotel area for parking.

The indoor Sky walk connecting to Plaza Park Garage was really helpful for the convention center event we attended. I booked at the last minute because of a snow emergency, and the front desk agent was very friendly and helpful. The room felt dated for such a nice hotel, though. The beds weren’t awful, but I didn’t sleep well. Heat didn’t work properly, with cold air coming in around the window. There was no bathroom fan, so showers left the room stuffy and the window iced over from the humidity. Shower pressure and temperature were excellent. Casting from a phone failed on all three devices we tried with the TV.

The front desk staff were wonderful, and I liked the meeting spaces as an attendee. My room was nice, but the HVAC had no temperature control and blew air at an uncomfortable temperature. An engineer came after I reported it, which helped on the second night, but by my last night the temperature was back to how it had been on the first. I was glad to find the hotel’s vending pharmacy, with a good selection at fair prices. I needed it. There’s plenty to do within walking distance. It took 10-12 minutes to walk to the Pacers versus Nets game, and a play was an option across the street. Shops and restaurants were all around. Don’t go looking for the mall like I did, it doesn’t really exist anymore. I heard the river was nearby but didn’t go that way. On a leisure walk with colleagues, we came across several large war memorials and could see what looked like a beautiful public library, but had to head back for meetings. You won’t be bored around there.

The downtown location is close to the convention center, and the bed and bedding were comfortable. Temperature control was fine, while the internet was so-so. The bathrooms are small, with no grab bar for getting in or out, which is a problem if you have mobility issues. There’s no microwave in the room, and it would help to have one available for use on each floor. There also weren’t trash cans where I needed them, so I had to go to the first floor to throw out food containers. Staff didn’t know the Regency Club hours, and it was closed on weekends. I also had to go back down to get food vouchers for the globist. Restaurants need more staff during big events and conventions, they were understaffed.
