Ironworks Hotel Indy

We stopped at Ironworks on the way to Missouri, and Mac, our dog, was made to feel welcome too. They brought us bowls and a mat, and even gave him a welcome treat. The staff were friendly throughout. I’m partial to industrial-chic design, so I really liked the rooms and the hotel’s distinctive style. It’s also in a nice retail center with plenty of bars and restaurants a short walk away. That’s a draw for many people, though I usually prefer a quieter setting, and on Friday evening the area was crowded and parking was hard to find. We ate at the on-site bar and restaurant, “Provisions.” The cocktails were excellent, especially the bourbon ones, and the food was great. The English muffin burger was phenomenal, and the salads were excellent too. Double chicken on the salad made it a little pricey, though that seems typical for a hotel of this quality. Breakfast at “Ryze” was a highlight as well, with incredible food and service. The gym was better than most hotel gyms, but it’s small and heavy on cardio machines. My girlfriend and I both lift seriously, so it was hard for her to get the workout she wanted. For people who aren’t meatheads, there’s probably plenty there. It’s a luxurious, unusual place, and we’ll definitely come back.

We were there for a few days during the eclipse and had dinner at Rize, where both the food and service were spectacular. The Ironworks campus has several places to eat and drink, so you can stay on site if you don’t feel like going out to explore. We also appreciated the large parking lot, something many hotels of this caliber don’t have. Our heritage room was comfortable and enjoyable, with industrial decor and a lofty design. Management left us an eclipse-themed goodie bag, a lovely touch that showed how much attention Ironworks gives its guests. It certainly delivered five-star hospitality.

There were lots of food choices right at the hotel, which was much appreciated after traveling when we didn’t want to drive somewhere to eat. The rooms were fantastic, and I liked that the elevators needed a room key. Staff made a warm first impression: the doorman helped with our luggage and showed us to the lobby, and the front desk assistant was kind and helpful. Even the day before check-in, I got a text asking if I needed anything for my stay. The one drawback was the cleaning crew starting early. The noise in the hall and furniture being moved in rooms kept us from sleeping in.

I’m in Indianapolis regularly for work, and this is my favorite place to stay. Several great restaurants are only a few minutes’ walk away in the same industrial park, with steaks, sushi, authentic Mexican food, and more. The hotel’s early-1900s industrial look, with its dark, shadowy feel, is just cool. That style carries right into the room. I usually leave only one or two table lamps on to keep the same vibe, and I love it.
