All the other hotels were sold out, or we would have switched immediately. We had reserved nine rooms nine months ahead and received confirmations several times, including three weeks before arrival, but when we got there they said they were overbooked. They eventually found rooms, but apparently half the hotel hadn’t been cleaned. All nine rooms were filthy. We bought Lysol, bleach, and cleaning supplies and cleaned them ourselves. There was blood, feces, urine, and used feminine products in the rooms. Some had no sheets or pillows, and had knife marks down the walls, cuts in chairs, and things torn off the walls. The manager said the state had shut down breakfast service and they hadn’t been able to serve food for “months,” despite the advertisements. We also saw hotel staff sharing puffs with a guest in the elevator instead of cleaning, and there was a strong marijuana smell. This is only a small account of a horrible stay.

I got about three bad hours of sleep on a mattress that might as well have been a rock. The room was passable after they cleaned it, but it had very dirty, stained carpets and a towel bar that was missing, with the broken piece sitting on a shelf. I was there the night before the Indy 500. After check-in I saw some rooms without door handles and a couple standing open to the outside. Then I went out for food and found I could open my own room from outside without a key. The door wouldn’t lock unless you were inside, and even the deadbolt opened when I turned the outside handle. At the desk, the woman seemed familiar with the problem. She handled it well, though she was understandably frustrated, and said other guests had come back with issues that day. It felt like the owner had let the place go downhill. They gave me another room, but it hadn’t been cleaned at all: the beds were messed up, the lights were on, and a fast-food cup was on the table. I gave them one more chance because I knew the race meant everything else would be booked. It was an awful stay. If my choice were this hotel or sleeping in the car, I’d pick the car.

They moved us without question when our first room smelled like pet urine. I’d been impressed when we stayed here two years ago, which is why we returned, but it seems to be going downhill. There were brown spots on the bathroom ceiling above the shower, and the towels were rough. The bed was very firm, though the pillows were comfortable, and the clothes rack looked worn. It wasn’t a horrible stay, but the place needs serious TLC.

I wanted a clean room, but this Quality Inn couldn’t provide one. The desk clerk seemed unconcerned when I told her the cleaner had probably forgotten to close the door, as if that were no big deal. She didn’t look for another room and said, “you can keep the room or get a refund.” I chose the refund and went elsewhere. The door was propped open when we arrived, and I was scared to enter in case someone was still inside. The room was run down and disgusting: the bed wasn’t made, cigarette ashes were scattered across it and the nightstands and table, and the room reeked of cigarettes despite being listed online as non-smoking. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned, the sink was broken, and the whole place looked abandoned. I wish zero stars were an option.

The staff were very friendly, and the room was clean enough, with clean sheets. Still, it was an old, somewhat run-down building, and the room felt muggy and musty. The carpet was a little sticky, the chair had food stains that hadn’t been cleaned, and the bathroom was somewhat dirty. Breakfast was standard hotel fare: microwave eggs, a waffle iron, yogurt, and muffins. It wasn’t a terrible stay, just not great. Fine if you’re passing through, but I’d stay somewhere else next time.
