I stayed because severe weather in Indianapolis had knocked out my power. I told the man at the desk I might need two nights, but wanted to pay one night at a time while checking whether the power came back. I called the next day to ask if rooms were still available, then went home and found my electricity was back. The following day, I was charged for another night for two rooms I hadn't used. I hadn't booked online, signed anything for two nights, and my receipt says one night. How did they authorize a second charge with a signature? The manager, Johnny B, was unpleasant and refused to refund me. He said my call asking about a room was, in effect, reserving it. He told me it was a lesson I needed to learn and that I should go home and enjoy my electricity. The hotel wasn't full, so I think they charged me because they needed the money. Don't give them your credit card details, and consider paying cash. I felt they misused the card and caused a lot of inconvenience. The room was tiny, the AC ran warm, and the TVs were very old. Customer service was substandard. I also warn people about bed bugs: my children and I were badly bitten in rooms 309/310. The day after staying, we each had at least eight bites on our arms and legs, and my daughter had some on her face and neck. I'd go to HOLIDAY INN down the road. I've never had a problem there.

We stayed April 13 and 14, and Johnny B deserves special mention for being such a gracious host. He went well beyond the usual manager attitude to make us feel welcome and looked after. The room was clean, stocked, and everything worked. It felt safe and secure, with no concern about break-ins or shady people hanging around. The bathroom was a bit small, and from the ground floor we could hear the upstairs guest showering through the water heater wall. That was my only issue, and it was minor.

After my four-night stay, I called "Ramada Limited" with my complaint. Ferdinanda in Indy took down my concerns. I learned the place hasn't been affiliated with Ramada/Wyndham/Chatham Corp since 2004, even though "Ramada Ltd" appeared on my online banking statement. It's disturbing that a motel can still use that name for card billing and charges. That's why I called Ramada customer service. People should know this before staying. The room was awful. It smelled of cigarette smoke as soon as we entered, even though it was marked nonsmoking. I thought it was coming from the AC, so we had to turn it off despite the temperature being over 80 degrees. We found unopened condom packages in a drawer and behind the night table by the closet. The carpet hadn't been vacuumed. The same hairpins were still there the next day, and the mirror had splatters all over it. The old carpet was stained, and we were afraid to sleep on the sheets, so we bought our own at Target. There were two pitbulls, and at least one was outside the office area. It lunged to the end of its leash and jumped as people approached, making it hard to enter the office and leaving guests nervous or afraid. Staff were rude to each other in front of guests, though they weren't rude to me. Indianapolis was busy that week and there were few vacancies elsewhere, but I wouldn't recommend this place.

The dog there was really vicious. I was traveling with a big group, so I stayed, but I had to raise my voice to get them to move me after finding a long bloody booger on the bathroom wall in the first room. The floors were grungy, the sink had cigarette burns, and it took five minutes of running the shower to get hot water. They said the tank was far away and other guests hadn't showered yet. The pillowcases were so stained I covered one with my shirt. When I got home, I had a seriously painful earache. I'm sure it was tied to the hotel's terrible condition. I've stayed in two-star places as a biker, but this was an absolutely horrible stay. The Baymont is close by. Choose that if your health and dignity matter to you.

Bed bugs were on both beds, and the room was filthy. The owner, Johnny B, was rude and disrespectful too. By far the most disgusting hotel I've stayed in. I feel like I was robbed. What a horrible experience. Avoid it at all costs.
