The Highlander Hotel

A fun local getaway, and a nice way to support a family owned and operated business. The hotel is unique, with clean, spacious rooms. The pool area is phenomenal and well kept, though it can be slippery. There are nice chairs, ping pong, a full wall looking out, and a working hot tub. Lucy's restaurant is spot on, and the unique bar and retro arcade are fun for all ages. The milkshakes are worth the money, and there's a good selection of games and record players guests can use, a fun retro experience for the kids. Pets are allowed for a small fee too. We live 25 minutes away and it's a great way to unwind and spend family time nearby, or for visitors to the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area. I highly recommend it.

The rooms are spacious, the beds were great, and above all, everything was clean. This hotel is awesome and unique, packed with personal touches at every turn. The food is great, and there's a bar where you can have a drink after a long day. Be sure to see the pool and hot tub area, it's fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful.

A perfectly fine hotel and I'd stay again. It's near the highway, though the area is quiet and there's not much else close by to walk to. The older building has been renovated, but its age shows in places, and the parking lot is rough in spots. Staff were very friendly during my brief check-in, though I had some trouble with credit card processing. Checking out by text was easy. The room was fine, nothing to report.

I was there for a birthday party, and the hotel is gorgeous. The common-area furniture was chosen so well, and you can tell how much attention went into the details. The pool is beautiful, too, with a hot tub and an arcade full of vintage games along with plenty of newer ones. Everyone we met was lovely. Our room was beautiful, and there are suites you can request that open onto the pool area. I'll have to come back for a staycation sometime!
