The hospitality was excellent, especially thanks to Hailey at the front desk, who went above and beyond. I left my Kindle behind and returned at 9 pm the next day. She went all the way to the room and retrieved it from the gap between the bed and nightstand where I'd dropped it. The room was very clean, the bed comfy, and the parking lot easy to get in and out of. There was also an adorable Bob Ross plush on the mantel by the fireplace in the lobby, so cute and cozy.

It's an older, very basic hotel, but they're making improvements and it's looking really good. There was a slight musty smell, though everything was still very clean. We only needed a room for one night, and it worked well for that. We didn't try the pool or other amenities, but the front desk helped point us in the right direction. Breakfast is offered from 6 to 9 am, though we had other plans. Not the Ritz, but well worth the stay if you want something easy. I'd recommend it.

Heather and the rest of the staff gave really friendly, top notch service. Everything was as advertised, and both the room and lobby were sparkling clean. The bed was super comfy, and there was even a really nice gaming-style desk chair. The mini fridge was on the larger side and had a separate freezer compartment. I'm already planning another stay next time I'm in town.

After almost 13 years away, I came back to Iowa City with my sister and niece and spent two nights at this hotel. I recommend it. It's an old style hotel building, probably from the 1970s, but our room had been remodeled and was remarkably clean, with everything in order. The hall carpets are faded and could use replacing, though that didn't affect our stay. Hot and cold water were available, the timed hot water heater worked every time I used it, and the large wall mounted TV was fine. Even though we're right by Highway 80, the room was soundproof, with no outside or highway noise. I'd say the curtains help with that too. There is no elevator, the pool was closed for maintenance, and I don't remember seeing a gym. Breakfast wasn't the best, but you get what you pay for. I rarely choose hotels that include breakfast, and since I'm dieting I seldom eat it. Eggs and baked sausage might round out the menu, though I assume they'd need to hire a cook. The front desk women handled breakfast and kept it stocked. I have no complaints about the staff. They were helpful, even when I asked about the local bus. It started snowing on the morning of February 20th, and later a truck cleared the snow from the property's road. The area felt pretty safe. There's a Mexican restaurant next door, which I didn't visit because I don't care for that cuisine. Maybe if it had been Chinese I would have. Local bus route number 7 stops a short distance away, is free to ride, and goes straight downtown near the old Capitol building. I should stop here, I have other things to do.
