Hyatt Place Itasca

We were in town for a baseball tournament, and the location worked well, in an industrial park and a short way from the ballpark. I’d have given the room five stars, but our third floor was noisy both nights after quiet hours, with crying babies and kids running in the hallway after 9pm. I don’t blame the hotel, since it seemed largely out of their control. They have “Quiet Hours” signs up, but apparently few people read them. It’s hard to see how they could enforce it on every floor without a public safety detail that would drive up the nightly rate.

My stay was pretty average, with nothing particularly memorable and no other major problems. The concern I can’t overlook is the pillowcase I found stained when I got into bed on the first night. It didn’t look freshly laundered, which made me question how clean the room’s bedding was. I didn’t check the other linens because I honestly didn’t want to find anything else. I mentioned it at checkout. The desk agent first asked why I hadn’t brought it up sooner instead of acknowledging the problem, and I left feeling brushed aside. I understand they could have addressed it right away if I’d reported it then, but that response still felt dismissive. Clean linens should be a basic expectation at any price. Housekeeping should inspect them properly before turning rooms over. I’m sharing this in good faith and hope it’s taken constructively, so future guests don’t have the same experience.

The price is pretty good for hotels around Chicago, though it’s a bit far from the city. The room is big, but the bathroom is so small lol. The door gets in the way, and it’s a struggle getting in and out. The lobby was really nice, and the people there seemed helpful if you need anything. My experience was completely nice.

The receptionists were kind and accommodating, and the place was kept clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable, with plenty of space and good lighting, and I didn’t see bugs or dirt. I had a decent couple of nights here, though the room was in rough shape. In the first room, the heater was very loud and shook badly. In the second, the thermostat didn’t work right: even set to 60 degrees, it felt more like 72. That heater kept getting louder and creaking by the time we left. One night there was no hot water, so we had to shower in another room. I wouldn’t stay again unless they fixed up the rooms and checked these things before giving them to guests.
