Hampton Inn Jacksonville Beach/Oceanfront

Easy beach access and the bar were the best parts for us. Having a drink and then walking straight out to the ocean is hard to beat. The pool was nice as well. The staff were friendly, everything looked clean, and the atmosphere felt relaxed. We really enjoyed staying here and would come back for a short beach getaway.

We came for Mother’s Day weekend and my mother’s Mayo Clinic appointment, hoping for a relaxing beach visit together. Instead, the whole stay was a disappointment. There was extensive construction, which nobody had told us about, uneven flooring by the elevators that made my mother trip several times, and such a strong paint smell in the lobby. Parking was impossible when we arrived, and it took ages to reach our room. Once there, I found an old towel wedged between the headboard and mattress. The floors were stained, and the blackout curtains had holes. We’d booked a partial ocean view, but our room faced the pool and was loud all the time. On Saturday, screaming children woke us up. The front desk moved us to the other side, but that room was just as noisy, near the main elevators and apparently close to housekeeping. We heard people going in and out of the elevator and maid carts rolling along the hall. We didn’t get a peaceful moment. The indoor bar stayed closed the entire visit, so we had to go outside for food and drinks in rainy, windy weather. We’d stayed here before and it was fine, but it’s been a while. We won’t return or recommend it.

The rooms were recently updated, the resort-style pool is fun, and getting to the beach is easy. The location is perfect. Smoking from nearby balconies happened every night while we were trying to enjoy the beach view from ours. Parking would also have been a problem without our reserved Diamond spots, since all the general spaces were full by around 8 p.m.

The front desk team was very kind and helpful, and the location is solid, with restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance and the beach right behind the property. But the room was so dirty I wouldn’t walk on the carpet barefoot or touch things without care. The room and common spaces smelled musty, like there could be mildew or mold. I suspect the property is just very outdated and needs a full overhaul, rather than this being entirely the cleaning staff’s fault. The pool also looks dated, and the hot tub was only half full. At breakfast my husband found several chunks of hair in the sausage tray. I don’t recommend staying here.
