MacArthur Inn

After a good meal of chicken, lima beans, and mac n cheese, we listened to a dozen local musicians play some great songs on string instruments.

The rooms were clean, and the staff welcomed us like family. The MacArthur Inn has the comfort of home and a charming historic feel. It’s in the quaint town of Narrows, where life seems to move a little slower. Thursday evenings bring an old time string band and a home cooked dinner. There’s a local park, a swimming hole, and some great places to fish. A lovely spot for a family getaway.

Allen, the owner, was a wonderful, accommodating host and even arranged a ride for us to and from a very nice 11 mile hike. Brian (with a I not a Y). My husband and I had no complaints about our stay. The rooms were cozy, and the historic decorations were lovely.

Allen Neely, the proprietor, is a great host with a great first name. He’s full of local history and lore, and chatting with him made our visit even more memorable. We came down from nearby Blacksburg for a weekend around the Virginia Tech home football game. The MacArthur Inn is a stately building in downtown Narrows, Virginia, on the River New, with warm Southern hospitality, spacious updated rooms, and giant windows looking toward the Blue Ridge. We slept better here than at the busy Hampton Inn, and had a great experience. They say you haven’t lived until you’ve stayed at this lovely inn. Thanks, Allen!
