Super 8 Johnstown/Gloversville

The room had an unpleasant smell, as did the lobby. Nothing looked like it had been wiped down after the previous guests: there were crumbs on the floor, stains on the tables, furniture, and walls, and black dust hanging from the bathroom exhaust fan. The bathroom door wouldn’t stay shut because its slide wouldn’t lock into the wall, so it opened and closed on its own. Checkout was at 11am, but at 7:30am on checkout day an employee entered, saw us in bed, and left. Around 9:30am, while we were loading luggage into the car and returning to the room, the same employee was inside again, had stripped both beds, and had started cleaning. Our food was still in the fridge, and our wallets and phones were out on the tables. When I said we hadn’t checked out, she only replied, “Oh. Yeah”. I told the front desk how unprofessional that was, especially with my three-year-old with us, and got no response or even an apology. The employees’ behavior was extremely rude and unprofessional. We’ll never stay here again.

I checked in Sunday and had to change rooms Monday because the people above me were so loud. Then on Tuesday I found a bed bug. The manager agreed to refund just one night. When I asked if he could refund more, he questioned how he’d know I hadn’t brought the bug with me. He also said they needed to complete a full investigation before refunding more than one night. I was told he’d call me by Friday. Now it’s Monday, almost a week later, and I still haven’t heard from him. This shows that Super 8 cares about money, not customers. Way to go, Super 8!

The room was at the end of the first floor and was still clean. The service was fantastic, and it was great value. I’ll always stay at Wyndham locations when I travel. One thing to know when booking: the Wyndham site was $20-30 cheaper than Expedia.

The pillows were comfy, but the beds were hard, which I’m used to with memory foam. The smart TV made it easy to watch what I wanted once I switched it to English. The shower was clean, though it took a little while to get hot.
