The Bungalows by Homestead Modern at The Joshua Tree Retreat Center

The bungalow was comfortable, reasonably well equipped, and in a very good spot near the park, restaurants, and more. But it was much smaller and less private than the website suggested. You're right next to the neighbors, and the outdoor seating areas face other bungalows. Inside there was one small table, two dining chairs, and a little armchair, so there wasn't really room for two people to sit and talk. For this price, I could've booked an Airbnb with three bedrooms, a pool, and a hot tub.

The Food for Thought Cafe served great, varied vegetarian breakfasts and lunches, and the staff were attentive. Nearby restaurants include Sky High Pie, and the hotel is only a few miles from Joshua Tree National Park, right off 29 Palms Highway, though it was a bit hard to find at first. Set inside the Joshua Tree Retreat Center, this is a beautiful, unusual small hotel with spectacular desert views through wide picture windows. Our spacious unit was immaculate and interesting, with comfortable furniture, a quiet split-ductless cooling system, room-darkening curtains, and a large open living and dining area. The grounds are serene and fascinating, with Frank Lloyd Wright and his son's architecture, fountains, cacti, and broad desert vistas. A wonderful experience, and we'd definitely return.

We had a wonderful stay at the Bungalows by Homestead Modern. We've stayed at their other properties before and they've never disappointed. The suite was roomy, bright, well equipped, and had a super comfortable bed. The setting at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center is something special. We spent ages wandering around and looking at the stars, and it's conveniently close to town and the Joshua Tree entrance. Highly recommend a visit.

The area is full of nature, but for this price I'd choose a proper hotel or a better rental. This is basically an upscale Airbnb: no reception, very remote, and no employees there to help. I visited in 2022, and since the Google reviews had been deleted, I'm reposting this. The rooms were nicely decorated but could've been cleaner. We had mice in the bedrooms and bathrooms, and it was very hard to reach staff to ask for another room. We eventually got one, but I wouldn't recommend staying here.
