The Driftwood Hotel

I stayed five days in a room with a kitchenette, and everything I needed was provided. It’s not ultra fancy, but the practical setup, staff, and location worked well for me. Town, the grocery store, and the main road are all within walking distance. An award-winning restaurant with excellent food is right outside the door. No complaints.

The staff were super friendly, and there’s a great diner next door. My second-floor room was quiet, comfortable, and clean, but it got hot. Opening the door was the only way to really cool it down, which wasn’t great for privacy. On day 2, there was no hot water.

I’m about as low maintenance as they come, but this was a terrible night. I arrived Wednesday evening for one night, and the room was hot as hell even though the day hadn’t been hot. The radiator was locked on despite everything I tried with the thermostat and its analog controls. At 11:30, after I’d left the door open for an hour, the room was still 75 degrees. I rang the front desk doorbell for help, but nobody answered. The room was garbage too, but I could’ve dealt with that. I just can’t sleep in a 75-degree room. Wish I could give negative a million stars.

The brick walls helped keep the room warm and the noise down, and it felt so cozy. When my partner didn’t like the first room’s location, the friendly staff upgraded us, and the new room was honestly perfect. This was my first visit to Juneau, and we were extremely happy with the place. It’s right in the middle of everything, and the price beat the other nearby hotels. There’s a convenient corner store outside the door, super yummy breakfast next door at the sandpiper, and a little cafe inside the museum right behind us that sold super good coffee. I’d recommend it.
