The resort grounds are lovely, and the pool by the ocean looked clean and comfortable, though I didn’t try it. During the 2025 tsunami warning, the women on staff and the manager handled communication so well that my husband and I felt safe. Our room, 520, had the basics but was a long way from the water. I also couldn’t watch the TV from bed because it was mounted on the same wall. The front desk man offered to send maintenance, but his manner made me feel like my comfort didn’t matter, especially after we’d paid $3,200. We come to Maui three times a year and had hoped to buy a vacation home here, but that interaction made us doubt we’d return to this resort. I later spoke with Gwen, who listened, was kind, and tried to help even though there wasn’t another room available. She agreed the room setup made no sense, as did another woman at the desk. Three days later, customer relations offered us a different room, but with checkout the next day and five days already gone, we stayed. They refunded the daily resort fee, which I hadn’t expected. Gwen and the customer relations staff member changed my mind enough to raise my rating from two stars to four. We may come back, though next time we might rent directly from an owner through VRBO or a similar site so we have more say over the room.
You can walk to a huge grocery store, a cluster of food trucks, and little shops, while the resort itself feels tucked away from the busy road. The grounds are full of greenery, and the rooms are spacious. There are two pools, a big hot tub, activities, beach rentals, and even a private stretch of shore. They also lend out DVDs. It felt like our own secluded oasis. If you're considering a stay in Maui, I'd book here.
Castaway, the restaurant on site, was a real plus for us since we kept running into disappointing food elsewhere. We enjoyed our stay at the AEI, and it made the trip even nicer. The condo was handy for keeping snacks and basics, with Safeway just a short drive up the road. A few miles north, we found a beautiful cove and snorkeled there, spotting fish and three turtles. We brought underwater cameras, but haven't gotten the photos developed yet. Maui was wonderful, and we'd happily recommend this place.
The staff were warm and courteous, and the place felt comfortable and very well cared for. I was impressed by how clean it was and by the modern kitchen equipment and decor. The location is ideal, too. I’ve stayed at several Caribbean resorts, and this was much better. I’d recommend it and come back. 👌
I had a very unpleasant encounter with a male employee who showed absolutely no respect for anyone. The surrounding facilities also need better cleaning. I noticed lots of marks beside the door and in other spots around the complex.
