The ocean view was a highlight, and we saw whales every day, but a lot about our week here for my husband's conference was frustrating. When we arrived, valet was jammed and the receptionist wasn't particularly welcoming. The hotel has several open buildings, which is nice in good weather, but walking between them was challenging since it rained about half the time. Our room was underwhelming, with a shower curtain and no bathroom extras like a shower cap or mouthwash. Our phone charger and my husband's sweater went missing, and the hotel wasn't helpful, which was extremely disappointing. The buffet breakfast costs $40 per person and wasn't worth it to me: the scrambled eggs and waffles were the hardest I've ever tried, and the fruit selection was poor. I'd expected local options like pineapple or maybe coconut, but there weren't any. Whalers Village is nearby with some nice restaurants, though there are better hotels in the area. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

I've been choosing the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa for years. The rooms and views are superb, the food is delicious, and the amenities are top notch. What keeps me coming back is the staff, who always go above and beyond to make the place feel warm, friendly, and welcoming. To me, it's the best hotel in Maui, and I'd highly recommend it.

I especially want to mention the breakfast and dinner lounge. You do pay extra for it, but I thought it was worth it. Breakfast is simple and tasty, the coffee is amazing, and you can get espressos any time of day. Dinner is billed as appetizers, though the portions could count as full meals, and the drink specials are great. The rest of the stay was lovely too. Every employee we met was polite and friendly, and everything stayed clean and beautiful. The path to the mall and Black Rock beach is a dream. I tried the yoga class, we used the pickleball courts, and we enjoyed the pools and jacuzzis. I love this place and can't wait to return for another vacation on Maui.

Our oceanfront suite was right by the water, and the bedroom balcony was only two feet wide, enough to stand on but not to fit a chair. The living room balcony had chairs, but its view was of the mountains. The description was accurate, though that setup wasn't what we paid for. The hotel has modern rooms and is right on the beach, but for a property its size it needs more restaurants and bars. Off-site restaurants are a 15-20 minute walk away.

We got an upgrade to a corner room in the main building, with an amazing view over the property, ocean, and island. It was wonderfully quiet at night, with just the rhythm of the waves to hear. The large, deep pool was good for lap swimming, and it felt a little heated, so swimming at night was comfortable. Lounge access made it easy to grab coffee and small bites, and the lei making class was fun.
