Maui Kaanapali Villas Resort by KBM

Our family had a comfortable, spacious room, and the kids loved the pool. Being able to get to the beach easily was handy too. But the housekeeping made this a disappointing stay and affected our trip quite a bit. Over 8 nights, we got one poor cleaning on day two and nothing after that. Even coffee, sugar, and other basic supplies weren't replaced unless I called to ask. After several days, I requested housekeeping and was told I'd have to pay extra for it. That was surprising and frustrating at hotel prices. It felt like an Airbnb, only with less clarity about what to expect. We kept calling for basics and barely received housekeeping for most of the stay. We've visited Maui before and had wonderful trips, but we wouldn't stay at Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas again.

We loved our stay at Maui Kaanapali Villas. The two pools were both used, but my daughters and I especially liked the one by the Castaway Cafe, with its hot tub. Our room had two king beds, two balconies with a table and chairs, and a great view from either spot. It was cozy, and the AC kept it nice and cool whenever we came back. The kitchen had what we needed for cooking and baking, and the clean, roomy bathroom came stocked with shampoo, body wash, and everything else we needed.

We've been coming back for 10 years, and the staff and team have always been great. The location right on Kaanapali Beach gives you lovely sunrises and sunsets, and Whalers Village is nearby if you want to eat out. The rooms have kitchenettes for cooking, plus good BBQs for grilling. Pool and other amenities cover what you need, with plenty for kids to do during the day. Sometimes there are more kids around, too.

The staff were really helpful, and the beaches are unbelievably clean. The wildlife around there shows up like clockwork. There's a range of room types, from family stays to vacationing dudes. The location is definitely prime, though the property is a bit older. I didn't get around to trying all the amenities because I couldn't stay away from the ocean. One quick improvement: upgrade the showerheads.
