We really appreciated having a kitchen in our spacious studio, so we didn't have to eat out every day. The shuttle to Whaler’s Village and Lahaina Cannery was also very convenient. We stayed a week and loved every minute. The staff were awesome, and we already have another trip planned back here.
There was great snorkeling just a few feet from shore, and we saw lots of fish and sea turtles. The resort is close to the beach, with easy access to both the boardwalk and beach. The pools are great and it's a good resort for kids. If your room isn't ready when you arrive, they'll hold your groceries in their walk-in refrigerator and freezer. Come early, enjoy the amenities, and relax while they get the room ready.
Snorkeling right in front of the resort is awesome. I've visited twice, and on most sessions I've seen sea turtles and lots of colorful fish. There are multiple large pools and jacuzzies around the property, too. We had beautiful sunsets from our room, and the maid service was perfect. Don't miss Dukes steakhouse, a short walk up the boardwalk. It had the best Fillet mignon I've had in years. This place is very nice.
We've stayed here 10 times, and it's a great spot with an amazing beach and lots of amenities. The rooms are very good quality, though not plush, and the property is well maintained. Staff are attentive, and it lives up to the western brand. One thing to keep in mind for a spring visit is the chance of high winds. After the fire that affected the island a couple of years ago, the default is for the power company to shut off power to that part of the island. We lost power for nearly 48 hours and lost a lot of our food.
The response from management was the most disappointing part. After several calls, a manager told us that because of the property's “ownership/vacation club operating structure,” there was nothing they could directly do. We were told to book and pay for another room ourselves through the Marriott app if we wanted to move. That was completely unacceptable. We checked into villa 7383 expecting a relaxing Maui family vacation, but it was directly beside active exterior painting. Scaffolding was right outside our lanai, plastic covered the hallway, and there was a strong paint smell throughout the room. A cockroach was in the bathroom as soon as we entered, so a bellman had to remove it. The next morning we found another bug in the bathroom area. This wasn't about wanting a better view or a nicer room. It was about active construction, paint fumes, pest and cleanliness issues, and being assigned a room that shouldn't have gone to guests in the first place. For a Westin-branded Marriott resort charging premium Maui rates, this fell far below basic hospitality standards. Renovations happen, but guests should be warned beforehand and kept away from active painting work. Being told to solve it by booking another room on the app ourselves was especially disappointing. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, this was one of the most unacceptable resort stays I've had. If I could give zero or negative stars, I would.
