The pool was the best part: beautiful landscaping made it feel like swimming in lush Hawaii, and the main hot tub was tucked among rocks with sand on the bottom. It felt like a spa. The other hot tub, by the back building, had no sand and was dark; we got spider webs on us going through the gate. The balcony overlooking the pool was nice, and the fourth-floor room in the right-hand big building was okay. The bathrooms were more modern, and overall the place felt clean and comfortable. We appreciated that there were no cockroaches, ants, or bedbugs, despite other reviews mentioning them, though we did have lots of gnats inside the unit. The beach is about a 30-minute walk from the main area around Black Rock beach. Upstairs there’s a good games and gym area, but the lobby is ugly and dated, like the back room of an Asian food restaurant. The basement showers were disgusting: old soap on the floor, pubic hairs on the walls, mold, and no way to close the door, which made me uncomfortable as a woman. The kitchen was very outdated, the coffee maker had bugs in it, and one sofa cushion had a big chunk of dried food or sauce. It didn’t seem like the rooms were cleaned thoroughly. Service was so-so. The staff seemed stingy and unwelcoming. We got one bag of coffee for the whole stay, had to pay for more, and the lobby coffee station disappeared at noon. They didn’t make us feel welcome or cared for, not even with a smile or a hello. We also had a list of checkout chores: take out the trash, load the dishwasher, and pile up the towels. Those are normal requests, but tying them to getting the security deposit back felt wrong. There was no housekeeping, so we were our own cleaners for the whole stay while still paying resort fees. It wasn’t the experience we wanted.

We had a simple, clean, comfortable stay at Kahana falls. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and the property was bigger than we expected. It made a good base for a busy Maui trip, with easy access to everything we wanted to do. The staff also suggested good nearby restaurants, since there isn’t one on site. The beach and Captain Jacks are within walking distance.

I enjoyed the stay, and for a hotel it really wasn’t bad. The beach rentals were reasonably priced, and the place felt worth what we paid. Still, it didn’t feel like a resort. We stayed 8 days and 7 nights, but our room was cleaned only once that whole week. They also gave us a list of things to clean before leaving, which I’ve never had to do at a hotel or resort. There were a lot of ants in the room and shower, too. I hadn’t expected to spend my vacation cleaning our room and stretching our towels for 4 days. That’s why I’m giving it three stars.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and it’s easy to get in and out. The location is decent, with a short walk to a nice beach and lovely sunsets. There’s also an excellent sushi place within walking distance. The rooms feel dated, and the ants were a real problem. We didn’t leave food out or eat in the bedroom, but often woke up with ants crawling on us. The cats who are sisters are sweet and like a scratch if they take to you. I’d stay again, but might bring an ant trap or two.

The pool is gorgeous and the staff are super friendly. Our suite was very small, although the rooms have had newer renovations. The location wasn’t the best, but it is close to the beach. There was no timeshare sales pitch at all, which was a first for me at one of these resorts, and I really appreciated that.
