Shared Ownership at Sands of Kahana, Lahaina, USA

We got a larger room upgrade without asking, and the price was great. The views were beautiful. We were glad to have a rental car since the best snorkeling beaches were more than 3 miles away. Across the road, Dollies pub was cheap and cheerful. Captain Jacks restaurant at the resort was good, and Costco has discount gift cards for it.

The location was good, and our kids loved the kids pool, but we found termites in the room. There was termite poop on the coffee table and stovetop, and we cleaned it up so our toddlers wouldn’t get to it. Staff didn’t seem to care. We called the front desk to ask for cleaning and fresh towels because of the dead bugs. The housekeeper muttered under her breath the whole time, as if we were bothering her. No accountability or hospitality. We won’t stay here again.

I’ve paid for and owned this timeshare for many years without making a fuss, but after my husband died of cancer last year, I tried to end the contract since I no longer have anyone to travel with. I sent several emails and letters asking how I could return it, and they keep ignoring me. They haven’t even acknowledged my health concerns or pleas for help. My age and health have made it impossible to get to Hawaii and use the timeshare, yet I’m still stuck paying for it. Don’t be fooled by the sales pitch. It isn’t everything they promise. They don’t care about owners. They take your money and then don’t respond. Stay far away, and don’t buy this timeshare.

Our room was oceanfront, room 365. It faced the sunrise, and every morning I could listen to the waves. It sleeps six, though four fit easily. The amenities were all clean and simple to use. I was already missing the location as soon as I checked out. I made some life memories and had time to relax and reflect. When I return, I plan to reserve the same room.
