Keauhou Resort Condominiums

Our stay in condo 111 was frightening and frustrating. Every day we found another kind of bug, including huge cockroaches, centipedes, fruit flies, and tiny ones I couldn't identify. They were in the stairs, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The bedroom and bathroom are underground, and we spent hours each day catching bugs. The host was arrogant and didn't respond properly. I asked for the $300 cleaning fee back, but they denied there was a problem and called it “common.” A review described the same issue six years ago, so it wasn't just us. There were other problems too: a fire alarm went off for no reason at midnight, towels had stains, the couches were dusty, and the dryer didn't work right. The place is badly maintained and managed. Avoid it at all costs.

We were in room 120. The view was great, and aside from the problems below, our stay was good. The management company, Kona Vacation Rentals, was the issue, not Keauhou Resort. The shower water was colder than body temperature, so we couldn't shower, and the tub had no plug to hold water. We bought a plug and boiled water in the kitchen every day to bathe. We tried reaching Kona Vacation Rentals by phone, email, and app, but got no reply. The room phone also shut off as soon as we answered because its battery was dead, so it was unusable.

We loved starting the day with coffee on the bedroom balcony and ending it with a drink on the living room one. Birds sang outside, and soft sunlight filled the rooms. The setting and views are beautiful, and the place was comfortable, convenient, and fairly priced.

Keauhou Gardens #1201 is a roomy, fully equipped two-bedroom, two-bath unit with ocean views. The grounds and shared spaces were in great shape, and the pool and grills were clean and regularly tended. Shopping, bike rentals, and snorkeling are all walkable, and the unit was very clean. Each room has its own A/C. The sunset through the living room sliders onto the lanai was lovely, but with no curtains or shades, it was blinding and heated the room fast. We also heard heavy footsteps from the upstairs walkers, though that's the sort of everyday inconsideration you run into.
