Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Kalamazoo

Pumpkin and Britnee were helpful and friendly when we checked in. By day three, though, housekeeping still hadn’t come. The bed wasn’t made, we had no clean towels or coffee, and the trash cans were full. I waited at the front desk, but nobody was there. Corporate said their hands were tied because we’d never been given a confirmation number. We paid over $1,000 for this, and next time we’ll find another hotel. I get better service at RedRoof. When I asked for the service I’d normally expect, manager Amber Wallace was extremely rude. She said I’d “attacked” the assistant manager and threatened to throw me out.

After driving for over 24 hours, I was kicked out of my room and left with a horrible migraine. The general manager walked in without knocking, touched my service dog and my belongings, then rudely told me to leave. I’d accidentally booked for one adult and one child, an honest mistake. My husband and uncle helped carry my things to the room, but had no intention of staying. I wasn’t even allowed to explain that to her. I’m out $120, with no room and no refund. It put a dent in my travel plans and holiday money. The manager was unprofessional and disrespectful. Fairfield Inn & Suites and general manager Angela showed me how they run the place, and it was absolutely horrible.

The room layout uses the space well and was decent for the price, especially for a quick visit like mine. It’s about 17 minutes from Western Michigan University, something to keep in mind for campus trips. The indoor pool is open until 11 PM, and there’s a decent 24-hour fitness room. Hallways are bright, and the lobby and breakfast areas are open and nice. My first room had a very loud air conditioner, but I switched and the second was much better. Nobody apologized. A lamp didn’t work, and the mix of white and yellow lighting felt like a lack of attention to detail, though neither was a dealbreaker. Good value for a night or two. Amber, the GM, went above and beyond for us. She’s amazing, and whatever they pay her probably isn’t enough. The hotel itself is nice, though we heard a lot of road noise in the king room. Luckily, we could switch to a queen with much less noise. I’d stay here again.
