Belle Vue Waimea B&B Corporation - Big Island of Hawaii

We stayed four days in the 'Garden Suite' at the Waimea location. The local views and peaceful surroundings were lovely, but the unit was only cleanish. We saw a couple of roaches, noticed a musty smell, and found the furniture dated, as other reviewers have mentioned. We live in Hawaii, so we understand the roach issue to some extent. I wish the owners had been more upfront about a few things before we booked. If this had been a local Airbnb instead of a hotel run by a local family business, I think I would have reviewed it differently. There’s a cat on the property, which we assume belongs to the owners. It spent much of its time in the garden, an area we’d hoped to enjoy. Cat lovers may be happy about that, but I’m allergic. The windows and sliding door seemed to stay open, and there was cat hair around the unit, including on our freshly washed robes and throughout the kitchen. I couldn’t find anything on the websites mentioning a cat, only that pets aren’t allowed. Our suite was right below the 'Penthouse suite', which accommodates large groups. By coincidence, we were there at the same time as a family of six, or maybe twenty? Their kids ran around early in the morning and at night. We were mostly there mornings and evenings, and the constant running and heavy footsteps made the windows, doors, and whole downstairs unit vibrate. The floors seemed paper thin. A heads-up about the cat and the upstairs unit, especially the possibility of children running above, might have led us to choose somewhere else. Good business practice was lacking. It felt like a money machine run by so-called "locals". At around 7 p.m., my allergies got severe. We didn’t want to move, make a fuss about the guests upstairs or the cat, or deal with trying for a refund and the runaround, so I took allergy medication for the rest of the stay and spent more time exploring, which was why we came in the first place.

The penthouse suite was one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed two nights and both loved it: spacious, with a great deck and beautiful views. What else could we ask for?

Chris was such a welcoming, helpful host, and the rooms were spotless. We loved the ocean views and the location, and the stay was surprisingly affordable. I’d highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

Hapuna beach and nearby shops and restaurants were just a short drive away. My friend and I spent a night at this lovely B&B and were both impressed by the comfortable rooms and elegant decor. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
